LCS Family Program

Adult family members must agree to:
  • work with the LCS Family Program case manager
  • participate in other appropriate available programs, both at LCS and city-wide
  • savings program
  • random drug screenings
  • provide all necessary medical documentation for children
  • supervise and provide for their own children at all times

Family Program

We at LCS are committed to assisting families in their time of need. Our family program is designed to empower and improve families. Each family has requirements they must meet. The requirements include, but are not limited to:
Each participant must sign a contract with the Family Program case manager that agrees to the following:
  • Participation in the Back To Work program, or other programs such as workforce center or life skills.
  • Participation in the LCS Family Program savings plan. Families are required to save a portion of their paycheck, SSI check, TANF (cash assistance), or or other income, to aid in the attainment of housing. The amount to be saved will be determined by the family and their case manager.
  • Compliance and/or participation with the Lawrence Housing Authority programs and guidelines.
  • Participation in random drug screening.

All program requirements are intended to empower families financially, socially, and emotionally. The following services will be provided by LCS, with the focus on strengthening and supporting the family bond.

  • Family Preservation referral within two weeks of arrival
  • RADAC assessment and referral in response to a positive UA
  • Parenting education services. F.Y.I. (Family and Youth Intervention Services) has committed to providing sessions with all families at LCS
  • Parents will have access to the kitchen area daily, to prepare meals for their family
  • A designated area is given to children for supervised nap time each day
  • Parents are given a storage area for their groceries purchased by them with food stamps
  • Parents and children are given a designated area for supervised playtime, located in the downstairs area of the shelter
  • Parents are given lists of childcare providers in the area
  • Parents are given assistance in filling out applications for food stamps, health insurance, cash assistance, and others as needed
  • Families have a case manager that only works with families
  • Counseling is available for families
  • Drug and alcohol abuse services and referrals are also available

Families are required to fully participate in, and with LCS Family Program. This program is designed to enhance, restore, and adjust all family members. Abuse of any kind will not be tolerated, and will be reported to the appropriate authority. LCS house rules will be strictly enforced. Failure to comply with LCS Family Program requirements and/or LCS house rules will result in immediate termination of program eligibility. Families are required to have medical documentation for children staying at LCS, including immunization records and a medical release form. All appointments (i.e. medical, legal, etc.) must be reported to the LCS Family Program case manager. Supervision of children staying at LCS is the sole responsibility of the parent(s). Childcare will not be provided by LCS staff by any circumstances. Assistance in contacting the families EES worker to request childcare assistance will be provided.

Guests are invited to share ideas and concerns by using the anonymous suggestion box. These suggestions will be addressed by the LCS staff and/or the Board of Directors. If you need referrals to other resources, please ask your case manager, monitors, or volunteers. They will advise and assist you. If you have a disability, please notify the staff so they may make appropriate accommodations for your convenience and comfort. Your guest status and all personal information you provide to LCS is private. Certain demographic information, such as age, sex, and veteran status, may be tallied so that we can describe the guest population and assess needs for future services. No names or other identifying data will be included in these statistics.

The LCS Family Program does cooperate with all medical facilities (LMH, Bert Nash, Health Department, Dentist), Lawrence Police Department, SRS, and other agencies as necessary.

Your signature of this document verifies you are agreeing to participate in all areas of the LCS Family Program. Your signature also acknowledges that you understand all consequences and actions of failure to participate in the program.
