We are all works in progress. A stamp of "success" does not one day appear on our foreheads to proclaim successfully finished products.
Although LCS guest George's (real name withheld to protect his identity) life has had its share of rough road and major setbacks, he has always considered himself lucky to have what he has. What George clearly does have is an upbeat and tenacious approach to life and his goals. He recently said "I've had my time of depression and loneliness but I put my mind where I'd get out to try to do something."
George readily acknowledges and is grateful for the LCS network of support and guidance with his current job placement and success: Arnelle Walker, job coach; Brad Cook, case manager; Loring Henderson, LCS Director; and Diane and Stephen Elder, night monitors whose confidence and understanding helped George through difficult times.
We celebrate George and his ability to keep moving forward in his life. At last word he still has steady work and is living on his own. He is still setting goals, including getting his own place and then his own vehicle. Fresh goals are signs of a successful person.
VOLUNTEERS
"Even if someone gives you something, it's not for free. You always have to give something back. You give it back to someone else along the way."
~ George
This quote from former LCS guest George seems a fitting segue to a celebration of the many caring volunteers at LCS.
Most of us have been blessed to have family and friends at our side during difficult times in our lives. We have been on the receiving end of caring and compassion. We understand how critical a helping hand or a kind heart can be at crucial moments.
Any person can look beyond himself and extend compassion and support to another in need. LCS guests are often known to volunteer their caring toward each other as well as to offer their services for the common good of LCS. Volunteers are full participants in life, regardless of their careers or financial positions. They are not stingy with their time nor their personal wealth, which runs the gamut from cash to kindness in any form. From persons in all walks of life, all kinds of professions and careers, and all sorts of personal backgrounds, LCS is rich with volunteers who put their caring to work in order to make our world a better place.
LCS takes this opportunity to celebrate all its stellar volunteers within the LCS family and in our community. We could not function successfully without you. Thank you for all the things you do, the seen and the unseen actions.
Carol Pilant
volunteer & member of the LCS Board of Directors
