Hanni Woelk

Hanni is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has over a decade of experience working with populations experiencing mental illness and homelessness. Her passion is for empowering people who have faced seemingly insurmountable barriers to become healthy and thriving individuals. She started this passion, and her career, in Chicago, working with children and families in psychiatric crisis, and then continued working with this population after moving back to her home state of Kansas in 2010. Hanni aided in building a grant-funded program that targeted transition-aged youth moving out of foster care at Comprehensive Mental Health and helped train mental health professionals in best practice interventions for young adults experiencing mental illness and independent living barriers, including trauma-informed care and navigation of housing systems. Hanni then moved into a clinical supervisor role at ReDiscover in the Adult Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program where she trained and provided leadership in best practice initiatives. From 2017 to 2019, Hanni served as the Director of Programs at reStart, Inc. and provided oversight to 17 programs serving homeless youth, families, adults, and veterans in emergency, transitional, and permanent housing capacities.  She has expertise in providing clinical leadership, education, and advocacy to help improve programming, services, and community awareness of issues facing these populations.  She is excited for the opportunity to provide leadership and empower those experiencing homelessness at Lawrence Community Shelter.
