Introducing the New Lawrence Community Shelter Executive Director!

To all of our valued Lawrence Community Shelter supporters,

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am thrilled to announce the appointment of James Chiselom as the new Executive Director of Lawrence Community Shelter, with a starting date of Friday, January 5, 2024. James’s arrival represents a significant step in our commitment to meet the evolving needs of our community, expanding our services and advancing our mission.

James brings a wealth of experience and leadership, with more than 20 years dedicated to serving vulnerable populations. He has worked extensively with individuals facing housing crises, homelessness, substance abuse disorders, and those experiencing dual diagnoses of mental health challenges.

His career highlights include a pivotal role as the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) Program Manager at Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC), where he managed HUD-funded programs that had a profound impact on statewide homelessness initiatives. Presently, James serves at Topeka Rescue Mission as Deputy Director for Community Needs and Services, overseeing the TRM Distribution Center and the Street Reach team. His commitment to holistic care and support is evident from his roles at Valeo Behavioral Health Care and Mirror, Inc., complemented by an Addiction Counselor Certification from Washburn University.

On a personal note, James is a dedicated father to a daughter and a son. Outside of work, he finds joy in his two dogs and his passion for music, often spending time playing bass guitar.

The Board firmly believes that James’s leadership will drive the growth and expansion of services at Lawrence Community Shelter, aligning with the evolving needs of our community. His experience and strategic vision will propel our organization forward.

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to James Chiselom.

We’re excited about the possibilities ahead and eagerly anticipate working together under James’s leadership to continue making a profound difference in the lives of those we serve.

Warm regards,

Charlie Bryan (he/him/his)
