These resource pages are intended for current guests, former guests, or anyone in Lawrence / Douglas County at risk of homelessness.
If you fall into any of these categories, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us here at the shelter. Your email will be received by one of our staff, who will write you back promptly in order to provide support and advice.

Adult Learning Center
2145 Louisiana Street
Remote or hybrid GED preparation classes, and diploma completion programs. There is a $25 material fee, and enrollment ends October 19th.
Ballard Community Services

Rent assistance, emergency food services, clothing assistance, and early childhood education programs that provide trauma-informed childcare. By appointments only, Monday through Friday.
Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence

Programs and activities focused on three impact areas: academic success, good character and leadership, and healthy lifestyles. They are currently enrolling for after-school programs.

Child-placing agency, outpatient intervention, assessment, treatment, and support groups for individuals and families where the abuse of alcohol and other drugs has become a problem.

Lawrence Public Schools offers pre-kindergarten and early childhood programs; offers screening for 3-5 year olds.
Haskell Indian Nations University

The premier national intertribal university serving members of federally recognized American Indian and Alaska Native nations.
Johnson County Community College, Peaslee Tech

Provides technical training to a diverse community of learners.
Lawrence Diploma Completion Program

Assists persons 18 and older in obtaining a high school diploma.
Lawrence Public Library

Books, periodicals, DVDs, music CDs, computers and internet access, public meeting rooms, a wide variety of information and resources.

Serves students pre-kindergarten through grade 12.
Parents as Teachers
1430 Haskell Avenue
Free education programs for expecting parents or parents with children under the age of three. The program is designed to give children the best possible academic success by supporting parents roles as teachers.
